An Olympic triceps bar has a rectangular shape with rounded corners. The weight plate holders extend out from the short sides of the rectangle and two parallel handles sit in the center of the rectangle. With a triceps bar, you can perform a variety of upper body exercises using a neutral grip — your palms face in toward one another — as opposed to the standard, overhand barbell grip. Besides just adding variety to your routine, a neutral grip has several benefits over the standard grip.
Triceps Bar Benefits
Most barbell triceps exercises are performed with a pronated, or overhand, grip. A study published in “The American Journal of Occupational Therapy” tested participants’ grip strength using a neutral, pronated or supinated grip.
